DULUTH MIDDLE SCHOOL,

ATLANTA

YEAR 2019

The Duluth Middle School

The design for this school was inspired from the Place-Based education model that focuses on impacting communities and increasing student-teacher engagement while also incorporating and open plan with multiple courtyard spaces for its users to get well equipped with their surroundings.

The design is based of a central core that not only acts as a place for entry but also, a space for socializing and bringing everyone together as a community. As journeying into the space, the school divides itself into components of the given spaces: gymnasium, cafeteria, classrooms, auditorium and library. The creation of these courtyard spaces act as a transitional space for the users to feel independent and connected to the surrounding while also being engaged to the form of the building.
